The Lamb is a picturesque country pub built in 1520 and located in the hamlet of Satwell, approximately 3 miles from the historic market town of Henley-on-Thames in South Oxfordshire. Located at the edge of the Chilterns in a designated Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty, we are close to the B481, which runs from Nettlebed to Reading. Click here to find us. The Lamb is set in large gardens and woodland area, with a large lawn and BBQ area, and offers extensive parking.
Inside, the centrepiece of the cosy bar area is the original inglenook fireplace, with welcoming log fires during the winter months. Exposed low beams add character, and the pub is furnished in a traditional English style. In the evening, the pub is candlelit, and there are also rumours that George the friendly pub ghost roams the premises at night! The pub has been lovingly decorated with old photos of the Henley-on-Thames area, with agricultural and other antiques and ornaments to reflect local heritage.
The Lamb is renowned across a wide area for great value and high quality food, beer & wine, and the friendliest of service. Mindful of the current economic climate, The Lamb offers high quality dishes at sensible prices – with many main courses around the £10 mark. The Lamb also offers four interesting real ales, some of them brewed only miles from the pub - including our very own Leaping Lamb Best Bitter, brewed exclusively for The Lamb by Loddon Ales, and Black Sheep Bitter from Yorkshire. Our eclectic wine list includes over thirty different wines and champagnes from around the world. Please see food, beer and wine sections for our full menu.
Our traditional yet exciting seasonal menus of English and Modern European cuisine cater for all tastes, including vegetarians and those watching their waistlines! The seasonal lunch menu changes weekly, while The Lamb's famous Sunday lunch attracts custom from a wide radius. An additional garden BBQ menu is also available when weather conditions allow, with regular hog roasts taking place throughout the summer. Brunch is also served from 10am on Saturdays. All dishes are cooked freshly on the premises using the best locally sourced produce from local suppliers. Naturally, our eggs and chicken are all free-range.
Our garden comes into its own from late Spring onwards, with colourful hanging basket displays, and is the perfect backdrop to any summer afternoon or evening. We have recently added a number of gazebos to the garden to make us British weather-proof! You can also enjoy a game of boules on our new pitch, and meet our ever growing brood of chickens who live in the woodland area at the bottom of the garden, and children can also feed them and collect their eggs.
Children (eating with parents!), dogs and horses are always very welcome at The Lamb. For the children our chickens provide the entertainment, and love being fed kitchen scraps. Thirsty dogs will always be served at the bar, although only water if they are under 18, and they must be kept under control at all times, particularly when near our chickens. Equestrians are also welcome to tether their horses to one of the many trees in our lower garden while enjoying refreshment in the pub.
We have close links with our local community, which provide our lifeblood, and we also support a number of local organisations and charities. This year we are sponsoring the Henley Literary Festival and providing the bar and catering for the local Leonard Cheshire Disability Home's Annual Fete, as well as supporting Rotherfield United Junior Football Club.
